A Multi-Scale Model for Cholera Outbreaks

چکیده

Cholera, caused by the pathogenic Vibrio cholerae bacteria, remains a severe public health threat. Although lot of emphasis has been placed on population-level spread disease, infection itself starts within body. As such, we formulated multi-scale model that explicitly connects within-host and between-host dynamics disease. To dynamics, assigned each susceptible individual with pathogen load increases through uptake contaminated food water (booster event). We introduced minimal maximal times when booster events happen defined time since last event. then scaled to population where structured using two variables (pathogen analyzed load’s invariant distribution utilized results scale assumptions reduce dimension model. The resulting is an SIR whose incidence function terms derived from finally conducted numerical simulations investigate long-term behavior revealed parameter regions either no cholera cases happen, present at low prevalence, full-blown epidemic takes off.

Modeling cholera outbreaks.

Mathematical modeling can be a valuable tool for studying infectious disease outbreak dynamics and simulating the effects of possible interventions. Here, we describe approaches to modeling cholera outbreaks and how models have been applied to explore intervention strategies, particularly in Haiti. Mathematical models can play an important role in formulating and evaluating complex cholera outb...

A Business Model to Detect Disease Outbreaks

Introduction: Every year several disease outbreaks, such as influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and other contagious illnesses, impose various costs to public and non-government agencies. Most of these expenses are due to not being ready to handle such disease outbreaks. An appropriate preparation will reduce the expenses. A system that is able to recognize these outbreaks can earn ...

A Compromise Decision-making Model for Multi-objective Large-scale Programming Problems with a Block Angular Structure under Uncertainty

This paper proposes a compromise model, based on the technique for order preference through similarity ideal solution (TOPSIS) methodology, to solve the multi-objective large-scale linear programming (MOLSLP) problems with block angular structure involving fuzzy parameters. The problem involves fuzzy parameters in the objective functions and constraints. This compromise programming method is ba...

Predictive Modeling of Cholera Outbreaks in Bangladesh.

Despite seasonal cholera outbreaks in Bangladesh, little is known about the relationship between environmental conditions and cholera cases. We seek to develop a predictive model for cholera outbreaks in Bangladesh based on environmental predictors. To do this, we estimate the contribution of environmental variables, such as water depth and water temperature, to cholera outbreaks in the context...
